Lewis and Clark Expedition緣起1803年美國從法國購買的最大一塊美洲土地（Louisiana Purchase）, 杰斐遜總統(tǒng)任命年輕的Lewis和Clark沿密蘇里河向西去往太平洋。歷時兩年他們記錄了沿途所見：印第安人的生活，地理地貌，氣候與動植物，繪制詳細(xì)的地圖，之后美國西進(jìn)才得以實現(xiàn)。
此次探險除了有這兩位優(yōu)秀的隊長，另一個重要人物就是Sacagawea，她在意外發(fā)生時的冷靜、與沿途印第安部落的溝通、食物用盡后幫大家采食野生植物等等。
